Atlassian Summit 2019 in Pictures

Greetings from Summit 2019

Mandalay Bay Convention Center

The 2019 Atlassian Summit user conference took place in the Mandalay Bay Conference Center. On April 9-11, over 5,000 customers, Solution Partners, and Atlassians descended on the city of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Atlassian opened the conference with singing, dancing, and their leadership dressed in Elvis Presley costumes. The Elvis song “Viva Las Vegas” was rewritten and performed as “Jira Las Vegas.” Shawn Anchor, author of “Big Potential” taught us about the science of happiness and effective teams.

Lots of announcements were shared in the general sessions. Anu Bharadwaj, Head of Product Management, introduced a premium offering for Jira and Confluence Cloud. Scott Farquhar, Co-founder & CEO, announced the acquisition of a portfolio management tool. AgileCraft was rebranded as Jira Align. Cameron Deatsch, Head of Server and Enterprise, shared significant board, reindex, and JQL performance improvements in Jira 8.0. Jay Simons, President asked co-founders amusing questions from the “Wheel O’ Truth”.

60% of conference attendees were first-timers! Atlassian hosted a special welcome reception and I was honored to share my Summit survival tips.

The Summit giveaways were available in full force. ServiceRocket gave away copies of Matt Doar’s Practical Jira Administration book, my Jira Strategy Admin Workbook, and Bill Cushard’s The Art of Agile Marketing. I left with a new shirts, sunglasses, and new additions to my growing flair collection.

With over 5,000 attendees, there was excitement, activity, and opportunity in every direction.  I met up with so many friends and colleagues on the expo floor. New friends took time out of their schedule to introduce themselves to me. This Community is truly a family.

Atlassian reserved the Beach at Mandalay Bay for Bash, the conference party. Attendees dressed for the 1980’s theme and the B-52’s performed.

Some attendees took side trips to explore the area around Las Vegas. I visited the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes of Death Valley National Park and the red rocks of Valley of Fire State Park.

As a foodie, I’m always excited to try everything Las Vegas has to offer. My favorite meal was the sweet and spicy waffle breakfast sandwich at Bruxie, near the New York New York casino. Thanks DEISER team for telling me about it! It’s on my “to eat” list for Summit 2020 too.

I can’t wait for the next Summit! See you back at Mandalay Bay, in Las Vegas, on March 30 – April 2, 2020.
